#3 “Photography deals exquisitely with appearances, but nothing is what it appears to be.”~Duane Michals. Write a brief reaction to this quote. Is this quote applicable to your experience with photography? What does it mean to you? Do you agree with the idea presented or disagree?
Nothing is as it appears, it's true. The world we see isn't as it appears because we only see the world as our brains tell us to see it. It fits well with photography because when we take a picture the image is orginally upside down, due to the way light enters, till the camera flips it just like our brains do. To me it means that we should all look at the world alittle more closely and careful to what the world truely looks like, cause I agree nothing is as it appears.
#4 “If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera.” ~Lewis Hine. Write a brief reaction to this quote. Is this quote applicable to your experience with photography? What does it mean to you? Do you agree with the idea presented or disagree? Describe situations when photographic images reveal “the story” (as compared to words). Describe situations when words reveal “the story” (as compared to images).
Photos do tell a story cause they capture a moment in time. These moments in time are memories which mean a lot to me so this quote hits home for me but I'd rather lung around a camera than just write down the memory. A time in which a photo tells a story for example is of a party of family function photos that show action that aren't too abstract. Words tell the story when they're descriding an event or action.
